The Beard Series - Matthew Thompson

This week I was able to catch up with fellow beardsman, Matthew Thompson. Matthew sports one glorious beard, and has been enjoying several of The Groomed Man Co. Beard Oils. We asked him a few questions.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

My name is Matthew Thompson. I’m 29 years old and I currently live in Los Angeles, California. I spend my days working full-time for a construction union in Pasadena, California.  My free time is spent with family and friends, staying active/working out, and planning my next art show or tattoo appointment.

How long have you had a beard, and why did you decide to grow one?

I’ve had my beard for about a year now. I began growing in June 2014.
I decided to grow my beard because I feel there’s nothing more natural than a man with a beard. My father once told me, ‘every man should grow out a year-long beard once in his lifetime,’ so I tried it and I fell in love with it. I feel that my well-groomed healthy beard makes a statement about who I am; bold, artistic, dedicated, and relatable.

What have been some opportunities that have come from having a beard?

I feel like my beard has opened up a lot of new opportunities. I’ve been able to meet new people all over the world, especially with the modelling jobs I’ve gotten, in large part, because of my beard.  I’ve found that my beard is also a great conversation starter. I’ll have people approach me about my beard. I get a lot of compliments and questions about grooming and maintenance. I always welcome questions and enjoy talking about beard care and encourage people to try and grow one.

Which of The Groomed Man Co. Beard Oils have you tried, and what did you think? Any favourites?

The Groomed Man Co. beard oils that I’ve tried so far are; Spruced Up, Down Under, Morning Wood, Cloves Off, and Mangrove Citrus. I’m absolutely loving all of the beard oils and am fond of the beard balm which is very different to the usual balms I use. The products are great quality and I’ve noticed, even with the hot and dry climate of Southern California, my beard stays moisturised and healthy when using The Groomed Man Co. products. I must admit that Spruced Up is my favourite scent so far because I love the smell of pine.
